Heavy Metal Music, Metal Bands and Satanism
74Metal Bands and Satanism
Well, only very few people worship Satan openly and consciously. A great number of people worship Satan indirectly without them knowing it. There are lots of musicians and bands out there whose songs directly or indirectly hail Satan and by participating in the singing of such songs u will be worshipping Satan unaware. I did a search on metal bands and to my utmost surprise I found out that most, if not all, of the metal bands represent Satan and Satanism (the worship of Satan).
There are bands like slayer, Deicide and Black Sabbath which are true representation of Satan and Satanism. Their songs are a sheer blasphemy to Jesus and to God. The slayer band for example has a song telling their listeners that “Jesus knows their souls cannot be saved”. That song is titled “Hell Awaits” and goes like:
"Jesus knows your soul cannot be saved
Crucify the So called Lord
He soon shall fall to me
Your souls are damned
Your God has fell to slave for me eternally
Hell awaits."
The name Deicide means the death of a god and this is a direct blasphemy to Jesus Christ. Deicide is a Death Metal band and their songs are on the killing of Jesus Christ. The Deicide band are noted for their anti-Christian themes such as “Kill the Christian”, “Scars of the Crucifix”, “Fuck Your God”, and “Behead The Prophet, ", among others. It is believed that the next Deicide album pending release early 2011 is to be titled “To Hell with God”. It is very obvious that the Deicide band like most metal bands is Satanic. I don’t need an eagle eye or a microscope to see this. It is very clear and all that’s required to see is common sense.
In Satanism, members are taught that Jesus never resurrected and that Satan stood victorious over him. Satanists are thought that Satan is an all powerful god and they are made to worship him [Satan]. The songs of slayer and the metal band convey similar messages to their listeners and by so doing they win the win the hearts of their fans for Satan indirectly. Satan had devised so many ways to draw worshippers unto himself and some of the ways he draws people to himself is through songs, movies and the entertainment media.

Does metal music have effect on the listeners?
Many heavy metal fans, also known as “metalheads” or “headbangers” claim they don’t worship Satan but only love metal music. As a matter of fact, I found more of such augments as I did my research to write this article. The bottom-line is you don’t directly become a Satanist by listening to metal songs, but indirectly you become a worshipper of Satan. Satan is described as a serpent. The serpent is a very wise animal. Satan is aware he will not get too many people to proclaim his name in worship, but he knows he can do this through music, through the media and through movies. That’s exactly what he is doing with metal music and metal bands.
Here’s what a slayer fan said about the slayer band in spin magazine (May 1989):
I hate your God, Jesus Christ. Satan is my lord. I sacrifice animals for him. My god is Slayer. Its the words of their music I believe in."
It is also interesting to know that the death metal band Deicide also received their inspiration from Slayer which led them to eventually form their own group.
The truth hurts, but it is what we all need
I know you would not like someone talking to you about stuff like this, but it is my duty to tell people the truth. Jesus said in John 8:32 that "people shall know the truth and the truth shall make them free" Jesus is merciful. He does not care about what you have done in the past, what you are doing now or what you will do in the future. He said "when we confess our sins unto him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"(1 John 1:9).
The grace of God is there for everyone and whosoever “shall call on the name of Jesus shall be saved" from eternal condemnation (hell). Please read the book of Romans 10:9-13. You may contact me if you need more information. God bless you for reading and I pray God gives you wisdom to understand what you are reading. Amen!

You're hub was certainly entertaining, and, even though some of it sounded like it might be accurate, the whole listening to this kind of music ties you to satan is a bit of a stretch. Did it also not occur to you that these types of lyrics also get people to think about God and Jesus? I think that is also intentional.
If they were truly satanic they would not write songs about god, and they certainly wouldn't mention Jesus.
I think it say more to people that they should think about their actions, and worry about the wrath of God.
And, it is all the same message the church gives every day, that sinners are going to hell, if they don't worship Jesus and obey his laws...so what's the difference? It seems either way, hell is your destiny.
I have listened to a lot of heavy metal bands, one of which is KISS, which supposedily stands for knights in service of Satan. Yet, I have seen them live 3 times, and never once do they mention the Devil, and they always say God bless you all. And, they even have a song called "God Gave Rock and Roll to you."
Satanism and music is nothing more than a gimic that the music industry uses to get people interested in a certain type of music. There was actually a heavy metal band called Stryper, which was a big heavy metal Christian band, they even handed out bibles at their concerts, and it made them a fortune. But, where are they now?
I wouldn't worry too much about the bands you mentioned, their following is probably so small, that nobody is going to care about them, and they will become yesterdays news. You certainly won't hear them played on the radio anytime soon. The recording industry wouldn't waste their time and money pushing that type of music.
Unless a satantic hot chic comes along to sell music to teenagers. There is nothing to worry about. And, I was just being sarcastic. It's all just a publicity stunt.
Do you also take Donny and Marie albums and play them backwards? I'm just kidding of course.
I'm also interested in why you insist on telling people that these groups are sending satanic messages? If you think they are doing this, the best way to avoid them getting to the masses is to not talk about them at all.
I have never heard of a few of the bands you mentioned, and you phrase their music word for word. Just like reading the demands of a terrorist. Nobody really wants to hear what they have to say, but there is always someone who won't stop talking about them. Thus spreading their message.
Doesn't it bother you that you are basically telling people who may have never heard of these bands that they are out there, and you may unintentionally be giving them an audience? Just curious.
You have obviously never read any Satanic literature, other than cd covers that upset your frail sensibilities. You're merely applying the 'its the complete opposite of christianity' rule, as do most christians. Rather try understand what its about before making broad sweeping and prescriptive statements about social groupings and ideologies you clearly know nothing about.
Chirst saves repented sinners, and those who follow the word of God. Only unrepented sinners send themselves to Hell, not God. That is not what He wants. But, He gave us the choice to reject Him or accepted Him. If you want to live your life in rebellion to the Word of God you are free to do so, as you reap the consequences of choosing unwisely. Very simple. God knows you love Him by obeying Him. He's trying to look out for your best interest. God doesn't wink at sin, and won't allow it in His presence (Heaven). So. Hearing, speaking, and thinking ungodly, so shall you be punished for not repenting (turing away, or rejecting from all that is ungodly). The lyrics are not harmless, they have meaning. SO, If you embrace the "harmless" lyrics, you accept sin, not God. You can't have it both ways.
Not even "most" metal bands are "satanic."
The whole Satan gimmick was much more popular in the eighties and early-nineties (which nearly all of the bands you reference are from this era).
Now-a-days, there is a very popular "Christian Metal Movement." Some of the bands in it are:

There are more, but I'm tired of typing.
Also, the main lyrical themes that are most prevalent in today's Metal music are as follows:
1. Lyrics that deal with personal struggle, or inner turmoil.
2. Lyrics that deal with abstract philosophical concepts.
3. Lyrics dealing with mythology.
4. Lyrics centered around politics (this is a BIG one in this day and age).
5. Christian lyrics.
6. The remainder can be summed up as either being, violent, sexual, or (in some rare cases) satanic.
Take it from a guy that owns literally, HUNDREDS of metal albums, it is NOT as big of an issue as you make it out to be.
Most "satanic" bands were at the hight of their popularity in the 80's and early-90's.
It's not really an issue today.
(Although I don't think it ever really was an "issue" as I don't personally believe in the Judeo-Christian god.)
Sorry, last comment, I promise.
This quote from your hub is upsetting in particular:
"I did a search on metal bands and to my utmost surprise I found out that most, if not all, of the metal bands represent Satan and Satanism (the worship of Satan)."
This shows that your fundamental understanding of the modern metal scene is flawed.
As I've alluded to in my previous posts, you're about 15 years late to the party.
You seem to be suggesting that there is a correlation between playing distorted instruments, writing complex and dynamic music, and the worship of Satan.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Lest you forget, parents once thought that Elvis, The Beatles, and Little Richard were evil and corrupting figures in music.
Fair enough.
However, I do have a question...
I don't consider myself a "Christian," but I listen to a lot of Christian music... does that mean I worship Jesus without being aware of it?
I'm just using your logic.
I think maybe you should take a look at rap. A hell of a lot more rap has a negative message than metal does. And besides the number of bands that do that whole satan thing are in the minority, and usually they are terrible anyway.
I just spotted this post and thought I would stick in my 2C.
Now be serious, could you see Ozzy, Lemmy or Bruce Dickinson, ponsing about around pentangles worshipping the devil.
It's anti-establishment and it sells records, big time, end of story, much like Punk rock did (the S*x Pistols).
The reason heavy metal hasn't fizzled out like punk is because these guys are very talented musicians doing what they do best.
I am over 50 and there is nothing I enjoy more than a blistering guitar solo from Tony Iommi,'Fast' Eddie Clark, Kirk Hammet, Zakk Wilde, and many more, I don't care about Satanic links or bugger-all else, I just love the driving rhythm, earth shattering vocals (Ian Gillan - Deep Purple - best rock singer ever - the only guy that can scream in tune - check out 'Child In Time' ) and blisteringly fast distortion guitar;
But I am not a metalhead, because I also like, Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin, Robert Johnson, Minnie Ripperton, The Eagles, Santana, Jimi, and Enrico Caruso!
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. :-)
To bobby1luv,
My comment was in no way meant to detract from the purpose of you Hub, you are entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else.
It was also meant to point out that people who listen to this music are only interested in the music, the lyrics could be about anything, Satanism is just another theme being used to sell records for the reasons as noted in my first post, and because it supposedly fits the Heavy Metal image, but from a band's point of view there is just so much more material available, because this theme is used in no other form of music, for instance, try writing a song about love and make it original, it will be very hard because every emotion or feeling or scenario there is about love has already been done.
In answer to your quote:
"..They seem to be so much in love with the rhythm of metal music so much that they don't care what it's doing to their minds and hearts"
I would like to tell you it is doing nothing to my mind or heart, people believe what they want to believe, I do not believe, therefore it has no effect whatever.
BTW If I get time, which is not likely, I will try and research what type of music was listened to by Aleister Crowley, if you are not familiar with the name, use Wiki, This is my definition of a Satanist, by the way, it also made him a lot of money. (Ah yes, money, now that IS the root of all evil)
As I have very little knowledge of the Bible, you yourself have actually quoted the perfect passage...
"People get destroyed because of lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6).
This is one of the truest statements I have ever read, and it is how people were controlled for hundreds of years, and in some countries still are.
I would really love to talk more about this subject but I am very short of time so I must leave it here.
As you may have gathered I am not religious myself but I respect the beliefs of everyone else.
So take care and God bless you too.
Wow. Where to start? I honestly think that everything you said was completey riduclous and couldn't be further from the truth. I do not "idirectly" worship satan just because I listen to slayer. Who said everyone agrees with there lyrics. It's just badass music to listen to when you're really mad and I love the guitars. Of course, some people do worship satan and listen to those bands but not all of us. I'm a firm believer in God but my favorite Marilyn Manson song is "AntiChrist Superstar." I just think it sounds epic; as I'm sure a lot of people do. It's not like I'm practicing the words they sing to me. You don't see me slaughtering kittens or goats. Heavy Metal is great to get your anger out on the world. It's a stress reliever to go to a moshpit and beat the shit out of someone you don't know and them be okay with it.(a little bit of a dramatization lol) Yeah, it's violent but that's life for you. I really don't appreciate people thinking that I worship satan or even indirectly worship him. That is just stupid. I will keep listening to my metal and loving god at the same time. woot woot Amen to that!
Cerca Trova- an Italian phrase meaning "He who seeks, finds". You went looking or Satanism in Heavy Metal, and you found it. Someone looking for things other than Satanism would find it as well. If you seek for something somewhere, you are bound to find it, and that is true with everything. The only reason you found what you found in that music is because you deliberately searched for it, and nothing else.
This is superstitious nonsense.
Most modern metal bands are actually Christian.
I'm an atheist but even some of MY favorite metal bands are Christian:
Demon Hunter, As I Lay Dying, War of Ages, Haste the Day... the list goes on and on (someone above me already posted a long list of Christian rock and metal bands).
It is true that some metal bands were what's now referred to as BLACK METAL, meaning they capitalize on using imagery and lyrical themes relating to magic, the occult or Satan. Most of those bands don't actually believe in that stuff, its just a gimmick, since no one in their right mind actually believes in magic in the 21st century. Many of these Black Metal bands do it simply because early heavy metal was labeled satanic and they capitalized on that false labeling.
I hate to be harsh but I find it hard to believe anyone is superstitious enough to believe this stuff. You must just be parroting what you were brainwashed with or digging up nonsense off the internet. I refuse to believe you're actually this dumb by choice.
Dude, you are so wrong about this.. I'm in a metal band, and I have many metal musicians as friends!
1. If you did your research on Slayer, you would only find out, he is a a Christian, in fact he used to go to church regularly. But to be honest with you on the whole most metal is satanic, that's a bunch of BS.
Metal is a way to release your feelings, just as any other genre!
Just because we express our hatred in our music, and sometimes describe things in a horrific way; does not mean we are satanic! I can go on and on, but if you have actually spent enough time with metal-heads, you would realize we are some of the nicest, down to earth people, you ever met!

You're entitled to your opinions but your lack of research is glaring. You obviously haven't explored Black Sabbath.
I showed the lyrics to Black Sabbath's "Forever Tomorrow" to this christian guy I know and he almost started crying because they were so beautiful. Read the lyrics and then tell me this band worships satan.
ted- its called 'after forever'. on the master of reality album.
Eric- My bad. You're right. It's "After Forever."
Or maybe they make it seem satanic becaes you christians have such pitty for it, (Tom Araya) front man of slayer is a christian.
According to me..., metal music is mostly judged by satan Indirectly,,, satan(lucifer) is musician in heaven...before the earth was born,...
All Metal band were not the worshipper of satan but, they were by the side satan... Satan judges their mind,,indirectly slowly by slowly...
The music everyone listens to doesn't involve satan. Slipknot did 555, 666. That doesn't mean anything, its just a song. There is no evidence of any kind of metal music like slipknot, mudvayne, slayer or any of these bands don't worship the devil. Saying that metal or any rock music is just a way to control minds. To believe that metal bands is satanism is just a way to let everyone who is against this kind of music control you, letting them control you is them saying you need to do what they want you to do and not having a life or a mind of your own.
Deicide was a black metal band. But then they changed to death metal. So yes, they can be satanic. But don't judge all metal bands by going through only 3 bands. Pop and Rap are more satanic than metal. Listen to Lady Gaga. She has surpassed all. And by the way, at least in metal the women wear clothes. What about your Pop and Rap? Why is it that they are always about sex? I don't think that is very Godly.
but here is the problem
jesus really is dead and satan is the winner lol
i was a metalhead n i used 2 listen to almost all the metal bands.. I listened to thrash metal as well as black metal, death metal, deathcore, metalcore, gothic metal n anythn that was heavy n even rap.. I used to give the same excuse as most of u have given that who cares abt the lyrics..! Bt people let me tell u whether u listen 2 the lyrics or nt it does effect u.. Heavy metal music just fills ur heart wid more anger, frustration n hatred.. Even i used to think that it is the best way of releasing ur anger.. Bt instead it just fills u wid more n more anger n hatred.. Just check urself deeper people.. Is it really releasing ur anger or is it increasing it..? Ive expirenced it n so i tell this.. N let me tell u all a reality even if the lyrics dnt directly refer to satan worship or stuff like that they all point to a violent n unhealthy n unrighteous style of livin.. N yea nwadays even rap music is promoting satanism.. Nt directly bt indirectly.. They use satanic symbols in their music videos n also show all filthy way of living as "COOL".. Many mainstream artist sell their souls to the devil to acquire fame n money.. N then they promote satanism by many ways becos they r under their bondage.. If they try to rebel they r killed.. I knw u'll wont be able to believe these words bt if u wnt to knw the truth watch the video in youtube "the music industry exposed" if ur a christian then be very careful n if ur a non- christian then come to the lord jesus christ asap.. Its nt too late.. Analyse urself n think
@raevyn
bt music influences our lifestyles n all types of music nowadays dnt show us the right lifestyle n thinkin.. They tell us that having sex wid any1 and at any age is ok, its cool to be violent,ur a fool if u keep quite or be merciful, talking bad words is cool! They our changing our mindsets.. That is they r indirectly cotrolling us.. Espeacially the mindset of children is most affected.. They grow up seeing n hearing all this.. N hence they end up nowhere..satanism is being spread silently like a poison slowly killing us.. N God is not a fool to tell us nt to do 'this n that' everythn has a reason too deep for us 2 understand.. There r so many spiritual n physical truths unknwn to the present mankind... Whatever he tells us is for our goodness, so that v cn live life happily n peacefully.. God bless u all.. Espeacially my metalhead brothers... Analyse urself n change as soon as possible.. Burning in hell isnt as 'COOL' as it is told in heavy metal music..:-D God bless u all.. Take care of urselves n may the good lord preserve u frm all evil according to 2 timothy 4:18
The Lord is looking
There is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. - Luke 12:2
all of you, if Christ comes today, will you be prepared to meet Him?
Those who have their hearts fixed on heaven will hold loosely the things of earth.
What you do with Christ now will determine what He will do with you later.
A true christian is a person who is right-side-up in an upside-down world.
I do not understand why people are so after HEAVY METAL.I am a proud metal head and I love listening to metal bands like VENOM and SLAYER,but I am not a satanist but a muslim and I solemnly believe in almighty God.Many people have totally wrong concept about the music and think that it is satan's music, which is untrue.Heavy metal is pure entertainment and thats as far it goes.
Does Slayer even exist anymore. I knew one guy that actually listened to them back in High School in 1992. I think now days it's more rap, hard rock, industrial, trance, pop, dubstep that the crazy kids are listening to.
Also if you go in guns blazing about something then you're going to "kill" everyone. Satan doesn't need to work hard through Death Metal to get young people to him, he would much rather work through more insidious methods such as Katy Perry, "I Kissed a Girl" anyone? I'm not saying she's any more wrong or right as every other sinner, but you are right that Satan is in a lot of stuff. He already has the Death Metal heads (kind of)(the hardcore ones anyway) so he doesn't need to work on them. Just causing dissension in between christians with posts like this is enough for him. Before you post - read the Bible and pray and ask God if you should do this. Also ask yourself does this further the cause of God's Kingdom or does it further what I want to do.
I am a youth pastor and have had more luck just listening and giving small feedback than chastising and ridiculing them from the start with the whole sex is bad, rock is bad, metal is really bad, rap is bad, broccoli is bad thing. (I do preach that premarital sex is bad and that broccoli is bad, but that's it from that list)
Your life is the biggest testimony of all to "Satanists" so do what Jesus did when with the sinner and tax collector and prostitute...let them ask the questions and let Jesus truly be in the lead.
Peace Brother, in Christ.
I hope you have success in all you endeavor in Christ.
(but remember to follow his example.)
good article
"After Forever"
Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?
When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope - do you think he's a fool?
Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light and I've changed my ways
And I'll be prepared when you're lonely and scared at the end of our days
Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
that God is the only way to love
Is your mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?
I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don't believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve
Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late.
I have no problems with the Metals bands and metals heads but i have a problem with some of the bands which directly Curse the GOD by their lyrics and obiviously they are the band who worship the Devil Lucifer as it is written in matthew 24 "Many antichrist will arise" and if we read the book of revelatiön there it is written that the world will be in hand of satan in the end times and if we look around the world we can found that a satanic music is playing a adverse role especially in young ones life in the form of SEX,DRUGS etc..... They directly or indirectly worshipping the Satan.. But JESUS wants to save them coz JESUS loves them a lots.

Thats ridiculous I listen to Metal and have no such affiliation with Satan or Satanism. On another point, no not all Metal bands write music in the worship of Satan, or for that matter the worship of any religious deity, very few in fact actively go out to promote or write about anything that could be described as Satanic by your teachings.
Take some of the biggest metal bands in the world, like Metallica, whose music and lyrics often deal with personal conflict, the misery dealt out by abuse, and other things that people allow to rule their lives in a negative way. I'm not sure metallica have ever written a single line of lyric that points directly or indirectly to Satan or anything Satanic in that sense, sure the lyrics aren't always pleasant, but I think a lot of that has to do with frontman James' bitterness at his mothers death by cancer which, as a Christian Scientist, she refused to have treated by medicine.
Take a more extreme band, like Slipknot, with their grotesque image, grimy lyric content, and the apparent overall appearance of a band that might have a pact with the devil. But if you look a little deeper than that, you may find yourself questioning the satanic image of the band.
Look (and this is a slightly ironic example) at the song "The Heretic Anthem". What's it about? well its obvious isn't it, you might say, it's about worshiping the devil. Wrong, listen, it's simple- The chorus goes like this "Well if your 555, then I'm 666"
555? 666? What are these two number combinations anyway? In Greek and Hebrew gemetria, every letter has a corresponding number, thus words in these languages can be summed up and given a numerical value. Some biblical scholars believe that the number 666 was originally the number produce of the name Nero, the tyrant Roman Emperor who in story "fiddled while Rome burned. The manner of his death or "disappearance" (in fact he commit suicide after being removed from the throne) led to speculation that he would return as the antichrist some day "(he)suddenly disappeared, and even the burial-place of that noxious wild beast was nowhere to be seen. This has led some persons of extravagant imagination to suppose that, having been conveyed to a distant region, he is still reserved alive; and to him they apply the Sibylline verses"- Lactantius.
Backtracking to a Slipknot song, 666 is placed beside 555. What does this mean, what is 555 anyway? It is probably an allusion to Hollywood fakes, a reference to what they perceived as record label corruption, therefore, "If you're 555 (fake), then I'm 666 (the devil)". This sin't a worship of said devil, justa way of saying that they don't like record label money-heads.
Now on the opposite end of the spectrum, of course there are satanic metal bands, why wouldn't there be, it's a genre where almost anything goes, relating to subject matter. There are Satanic Metal bands, there are Pagan Metal bands, there are Christian (yes Christian) Metal bands, bands that describe their overall message as being Jewish.
But that's just lumping all metal bands together as being out there with a religious (or anti-religious) message. Some speak of life experiences (good and bad), some speak of hardships, the only things that really remain a constant throughout, is the musical styles (of which, within metal, there are many). I think metal means something different to its many individual listeners, but by no means are they all out to promote Satan, and neither are, for the most part anyway, the bands.
